Many Nigerians, especially twitter users, on Saturday, woke up to the story that the Twitter handle of the All Progressive Congress, APC has been to sold to Justin Sun for the sum of $2,000.
The handle which before now, tweets images and texts in support of the party was seen displaying picture of Justin Sun as profile picture and a couple of tweets soliciting for bitcoin from followers.
One of the tweets allegedly tweeted by Sun indicated that the president of Nigeria, President Mohammadu Buhari has sold the Twitter handle with over 700k followers to him.
But some Nigerians have faulted the claims arguing that the APC may have hired hackers to compromise the account following threats made last week by the Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi that the Twitter handle @apcnigeria is not the official twitter account of the party.
Abdullahi was reacting to Mr. Reno Omokri’s claim that the APC was secretly begging him to come join the party, after he released screenshots of conversation the party through its Twitter handle had with him.
Abdullahi had said that the Twitter handle @APCNIGERIA was created in 2015 to promote activities of the then presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari by one Philip Obin, but several attempts to get Mr. Obin release the login details have all failed as Mr. Obin has bluntly refused to let go of the login information.
Shortly after Omokri released screenshot of the conversation between him and the Twitter handle @apcnigeria, Abdullahi threatened to use every available means to get Mr. Obin to release the login details in order to, according to him “save the party of further embarrassment”.
On his part, Philip Obin while reacting to the development on his Twitter handle, @philipobin said: “@APCNigeria has been hacked. Efforts to recover it ongoing. Kindly disregard any tweets posted on the account. Any inconvenience is regretted. Cc @Twitter @TwitterSupport @TwitterSupport @jack”.
